The KwaZulu-Natal Midlands is an inland area of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa that lies outside of Pietermaritzburg but before the Drakensberg mountain range.  There are several small towns located in the Midlands, including: Howick, Hilton, Balgowan, Nottingham Road and Mooi River

The Midlands Meander is several tourism routes that include accommodation, art and crafts and restaurant stops.

Some of the South Africa's top private schools are located in the Midlands, including: Cowan House, Clifton Preparatory School, Hilton College, Michaelhouse and St. Anne's Diocesan College.

Hawklee Country House, Guest House, HOWICK
Set in 35 acres of undisturbed beauty on the banks of the tranquil Lions River, near Nottingham Road.  Scenic riverside walks, bird watching, trout fishing in the river or nearby dams, and lazy swimming in crystal clear pools.  The more energetic can indulge in golf, horseriding, cycle touring and country rambles. Game reserves, Zulu cultural attractions and the Anglo-Boer War battlefields are all within easy driving distance.  The thatched country complex offers warm and hospitable accommodation in ten spacious double rooms, all en-suite - and all featuring a jacuzzi spa. nine overlook the river, including the Owl and the Pussycat honeymoon suite. The Gilbert and Sullivan musical suite, is set in the gardens. four of the units have self catering facilities.  Imagine a hearty breakfast, Midlands lunch or country tea on the terrace … or indulging in a superb traditional dinner after a relaxing day exploring the Midlands Meander.  Features a 6 hole pitch-and-putt course.
Haycroft Country House, Self-Catering, HOWICK
Haycroft Country House is a beautiful country holiday homestead set on 70 acres of rolling lawns and grasslands with views of the Midlands and Drakensberg.  Only 7 km's from Midmar Dam, Howick and close to the Karkloof nature reserve, half and hour from the Central and Southern Drakensberg, 20 minutes to Pietermaritzburg and an hour from Durban, Haycroft is easy to find, close enough to the N3 yet far enough to kick back and relax. Haycroft is home to many indigenous wild flowers, birdlife and many species of buck, jackals, honey badgers, wild cat and more.  Enjoy the 6 hectare well stocked bass dam for fishing and rowing enthusiasts, swimming pool, floodlit tennis court and club house, equestrian centre with indoor and outdoor arena. Horse riding courses and lessons available.  Haycroft offers three comfortable, spacious and immaculate fully equipped cottages (for self-catering or B&B) decorated in charming soft furnishings with SABC TV (DSTV on request), hifi, and fresh milk and home-baked muffins on arrival. Two cottages have access to internet and email.
Pleasant Places, Guest House, HOWICK
Pleasant Places, which is accredited 4 stars by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa and is accredited by the Portfolio Collection, offers home away from home, comfortable and cosy accommodation in a quiet setting, overlooking the Lions River and picturesque farming and forest scenes. The peace and tranquility on the farm make for an ideal place of retreat and drawing aside from daily life.  Accommodation at present comprises four double-bedded rooms with en-suite bathrooms and a cottage with two bedrooms; there is a double bed in the larger room and two single beds in the other. The cottage has two bathrooms.  We are also ideally situated for small, quiet conferences and 'Think tanks'.  Guests are requested not to smoke indoors.  Visitors can relax in the lounge, on the patio overlooking the Lions River or find a quiet spot in the rambling garden. In winter log fires warm the lounge and dining room.
Stocklands Farm Bed & Breakfast, B&B/Self-Catering, HOWICK
Stocklands Farm is an original settler home in the Midlands of Natal. Set in ten acres of gardens and paddocks, this 150 year old stone house with original yellowwood doors and ceilings offers luxurious accommodation in either en suite bedrooms with their own bathrooms, or in three self-catering cottages. All rooms have their own entrances and secure parking.  Breakast are served in our beautifully appointed dining room and we offer an extensive menu to choose from. Stocklands is a working farm and produces its own organically grown fruit and vegetables and free-range eggs. There is a small herd of beef cattle.  Located on the Midlands Meander, Stocklands is next door to the Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve where there are opportunities for walks, bird watching and game viewing. Golf, fly-fishing and horse-riding can be arranged. Midmar dam is a ten minute drive away and offers sailing, water skiing and wind-surfing.  We are close to several excellent restaurants should you wish to dine out.

MOOI RIVER - B&B/GUEST HOUSE/SELF-CATERING ACCOMMODATION - NATAL MIDLANDS/SOUTHERN DRAKENSBERG

Antbear Guesthouse, MOOI RIVER
The Antbear Guesthouse, originally built in the 1940's and recently restored by sculptor Bruce Attwood, gets its name from the previous resident, who lived beneath the floor boards before restoration.  Eccentrically refurbished using wood gathered in the surrounding valleys, the Antbear combines comfort with a unique environment.  Using a fifty-year-old outhouse for the basic framework, Bruce created a unique guest-house and home in the rural hinterland of Kwazulu-Natal. The original structure which belonged to a farmer friend, consisted of two traditional rondavels, or thatch covered huts, connected by a stoep, or veranda wit an overhead trellis. Pearched on a kind of natural platform overlooking the bushmans river, the house has panoramic views of the Drakensberg Mountains.  Relax, enjoy the view, take walks around the farm and savor the delicious food prepared by Andrew and Conny. There is a lot to be seen and done in the area. Participate in the farm life, feed the calves or watch the milking. Drive up to Giants Castle, the Champagne valley or Mont Aux Sources. Walk in the Drakensberg on day trips or even stay in a cave overnight.

Fountain Hall Guest farm is a working Dairy farm situated 7 km from Mooi River nestled in the foothills of the Kamberg / Drakensberg Mountain.  We are in close proximity to pubs, restuarants, golf course, schools, battlefields, bushmen paintings etc.  Fountain Hall Farm is situated on the Midlands Meander route.  Activities on the farm include: viewing of numerous farm animals and dairy etc., walks, bass fishing on 7 km of Mearns dam. Horse rides at extra costs. Bird viewing, bring along bikes and ride around the farm.  Self contained fully serviced B&B or self catering unit,with private entrance and garden.
