Hout
Bay in Cape Town is famous for its good seafood by Gerald Crawford
A popular seaside village
(many refer to it as the Republic of Hout Bay) famous for its good seafood,
relaxed atmosphere and working harbour area. A boat trip to Seal Island
with around 5000 seals offers a unique and pleasant experience. Chapmans

Hout
Bay is a popular tourist attraction among both local and international
visitors. There are a variety of restaurants in the village as well as
two hotels (the Hout Bay Manor and the Chapman's Peak Hotel) and many bed
and breakfasts and self-catering accommodation where visitors can stay.
The harbour is a worthwhile visit, as there are spectacular views of the
bay and boat rides to Duiker Island and around the Sentinel. The famous
Mariner's Wharf restaurant is widely visited. Chapman's Peak Drive is one
of the world's most scenic mountain drives and has recently undergone renovations
to ensure the safety of travellers using the route. The East and West forts
built by the Dutch in the 18th century can also be visited, with the original
cannons and barracks still standing on the slopes of Chapman's Peak. The
East fort is the oldest operating gun battery in the world. The mountains
surrounding Hout Bay also make for good hiking trails. The Red Bull
Big Wave Africa surfing contest is held on the other side of the Sentinel
mountain, at the famous Dungeons. Some of the biggest waves in the world
are found here and these attract surfers from all over the world. The competition
can only be held during May to August, when the waves reach heights of
15 - 20 feet. |

The romantic setting of our large property provides magnificent views of
the Bay, the mountains which surround it, the harbour and the beach. In
Hout Bay, everything is close and accessible. The quiet, picturesque beach
is only 1km from our house, as are the variety of shops and restaurants.
Wolwekrantz tells of the history of the area, of a time, when leopards
were mistaken for wolves. The cottage has loads of character, enhanced
by natural stone, wood and terracotta.The open-plan lounge/dining room
has comfortable sofas and oregon pine furniture.It has large wooden windows
which let in the view. The area adjoins a well-equipped kitchen with microwave,
hob, coffee machine, kettle, toaster and fridge. For guests who come in
the cooler months, there's an open log fireplace in the lounge. The
cottage sleeps four: the main bedroom has a queen-size double bed, built-in
cupboards and an en-suite bathroom with bath and shower. Like the lounge,
it has large windows and a great view. |
