Wolfkop
Nature Reserve - for the free spirited traveler
Welcome!
Nature
Reserve, Cottages, Coffee shop and Steak House, Fauna and flora, Experience,
Activities, Camping Villages, Farm cottages, Cape Town accommodation.
Nature
Reserve:
About
1 ¾ hours drive from Cape Town, 5 km from Citrusdal village, our
450ha Natural Fynbos and Sandstone reserve (Unesco World heritage site)
is situated at the foothills of the Cederberg Range. The snow cover of
winter gives way in Spring to a variety of succulent plants and daisies,
painting the landscape white, orange, green and blue. |
| Cottages:
Each
unique and totally private cottage offers panoramic views of the Oliphant
River valley accessible by private gravel road winding through the Fynbos
veld.
Each
cottage has two rooms, uniquely decorated in African art and colors. The
main bedroom has a queen size bed and two more single beds in the other
room - fitted with cotton percale bedding. Each bathroom features rain
head showers and private outside hot bush showers.

|
|
| An
open plan kitchen and living room boasts high wooden beam ceilings and
deep sofas for your afternoon siestas, and a central fireplace that goes
well with a glass of red wine. The Living Room leads through double doors
onto a terrace with hammocks and a lantern lit Jacuzzi. Perfect for sundowners,
with a braai fire crackling, or gazing at stars later on.
Grind
your own coffee beans (provided) for fresh ground coffees with the electric
grinder. You’ll find fresh hand squeezed orange in the fridge during citrus
harvest time. |

Coffee
shop and Steak House:
For
your Breakfast needs which can be added on the accommodation bill we recommend
the “Via the grape vine” coffee shop (022 9212190) and for dinner we recommend
“Die Sitrus” Steak House (022 9212228)
Fauna
and Flora:
An
abundance of early morning animal life awaits you. (Duiker, porcupine,
hares, baboon, tortoise, dassie, and leopard tracks have also been spotted).
Black Eagles, Secretary birds, Herron, and an early morning passage by
Egyptian geese fill the skies. Each cottage has its own indigenous Fynbos
and rock garden - Protea flowers during March April, Aloes during June
July, Daisies and succulents during our famous wild flower season and pin
cushions that flower during October and November. Our lichen rock fields
are also unique and in abundance. |
| Experience:
Each
cottage is independent and private, the perfect getaway from city life.
Unwind and relax, experience the unique setting of this Nature Reserve’s
tranquility and silence from your own private cottage. Enjoy breakfast
while watching a V shape flock of Sacred Ibis glide past, or a drink in
hand while watching the sun set. Then wait for the stars. Lanterns are
provided, casting a warm and soft light to enjoy either the fireplace or
jacuzzi.
During
August/September the whole countryside is carpeted in wild flowers. Find
yourself elevated in your cottage above the sea of mist that covers the
valley floor. Free Wi Fi is available, but unfortunately not guaranteed.

Activities:
Hiking
and mountain bike trails, fishing dam or river (at campsite on Grootfontein
farm), canoe hire. Mountain bikes are for hire on our 8km unspoiled fynbos
route which includes rock formations, farm dams, citrus orchids and rooibos
plantations. The 8km hiking trail is highly recommended and truly amazing.
It includes mind boggling rock formations, Bushmen paintings and scenes
of fynbos and sandstone mountains. Fishing can be done either at a reed
dam with its abundance of weaver birds or 13km further up at our camping
spot on the river at Grootfontein campsite. |
| Village:
Citrusdal
(5km away) offers a lovely coffee shop, steak house, golf course, quad
bikes and paintball activities. The village hosts four annual events which
include a golf event, mountain bike event, canoe marathon and a 4x4 weekend.
Citrusdal is also the perfect base to explore the West coast with famous
open air restaurants and crayfish festival. Elandsbay (50min from Citursdal)
is rated the best left hand point break (surfing) in Africa, and Rockland’s
(45min from Citrusdal) is rated the second best rock climbing spot (bouldering)
in the world!!!
