Tides River Lodge is a privately owned Lodge on the banks of the Breede River near Malgas - a scenic two and a half hours drive from Cape Town and half an hour from Swellendam.  We are centrally situated for exploring the unique Overberg Region - De Hoop Nature Reserve, Cape Infanta, Witsand (San Sebastian Bay). 

A fishermen and birdwatchers haven as well as an ideal base for watersport enthusiasts. We have four beautifully designed thatched units on the waters edge, rolling green lawns down to the river, private jetty and slipway and orchard.

We create a relaxed, informal atmosphere and cater to your very specific requirements. Children welcome.

Tides offers a selection of accommodation from cosy two sleepers to luxury lodges that sleep eight.

Right on the banks of the river are Zebra Lodge, Cob Cottage, Heron House and The Boathouse. All have river views, verandahs, braai areas and DSTV. Bedrooms have Queen Size beds with 100% cotton linen.

This delightful riverside cottage sleeps 8 (Four double bedrooms, 3 bathrooms). It has a fully equipped kitchen open plan lounge and dining area, log fireplace and shaded verandah with braai.

This luxury double volume lodge sleeps 9 (3 double bedrooms en-suite and an additional bedroom with three single beds). Spectacular and spacious. The lounge and dining room lead out onto a lovely covered dining area with braai facilities. A fully equipped kitchen, open fireplace, bar and shaded verandah. Rooms have balconies with lovely river views.

This cosy thatched loft unit is right on the waters edge with a lovely wooden deck overlooking the river and garden. It has a kitchenette and DSTV, ideal for bird watching. Sleeps 3.

A lovely spacious "easy living" house. Queen size bed and a single in each room. Fully equipped kitchen, beautiful garden and river views. Large lounge and open plan kitchen, braai area, verandah with garden and river views

Bird Watching:  The Overberg has a number of different eco-systems and offers enthusiasts an opportunity of birding in mountain, coastal, river and estuarine habitats. Tides Lodge is centrally situated for exploring the overberg region and its associated bird life.

The Fynbos Birding Experience
The Cape floral kingdom with 9000 plant species (almost 70% of which are endemic) ranks among the wonders of the natural world. The bird species attracted by its best known vegetation type, Fynbos "fine bush" can be relatively easily found around the Overberg.

Fishing: The Breede River is recognised as one of the best fishing estuaries in South Africa. Tidal action reaches 60km upstream supporting a rich diversity of fish and birdlife.

Fishing can be enjoyed year round in the waters of San Sebastian Bay and the Breede River Estuary. The area offers the opportunity to catch a wide variety of fish. You have the choice of River Fishing, Rock and Surf Fishing, Inshore Game Fishing.

One can expect to catch Spotted Grunter, Cob, Steenbras, Leervis, Shad and Barbel in the river and Kabejou, Cape Salmon (Geelbek), White and Red Stumpnose and Red Roman at sea.

Directions:
Take the N2 from Cape Town just before Swellendam turn right at the "MALGAS / INFANTA" sign. Continue on the gravel road for approximately 40 kms and turn left at the "Lemoentuin" sign. Take the first left hand turn through the gate and follow the "TIDES" signs down to the river.
