Introduction
The
beautiful Franschhoek Valley, at the heart of South Africa's Winelands,
is home to La Providence – a small and luxurious Boutique Wine Farm.
Situated at the foot of the majestic Middagkrans Mountain, the farm commands
awe-inspiring views of the valley and is completely surrounded by mountains.
Noted
for its wine production and luxurious guest accommodation, La Providence
offers visitors the opportunity to experience Franschhoek in regal style.
The estate is located behind the famous Huguenot monument and is only five
minutes’ walk to Franschhoek’s main road, which is home to several of the
widely-acclaimed restaurants. The valley also boasts over forty wine estates,
resulting in its title “Gourmet Capital of South Africa”. In addition
to some superb golf courses, the Franschhoek Winelands also provides a
wonderful location for other outdoor pursuits such as horse riding and
trout fishing.

Adjacent to the large lounge/dining
area is the fully-fitted kitchen. However, with Franschhoek being known
as 'The Gourmet Capital of South Africa', it's unlikely you'll want to
prepare your own food, but will probably choose to eat in one of the many
fabulous restaurants in Franschhoek.
The cottage overlooks a large
duck pond with an abundance of wildlife and provides an oasis of tranquility;
perfect for enjoying the wildlife and stunning mountain views - all from
your
own doorstep.

| Guests will find several
seating areas suited for various purposes: Sitting under the pergola for
an alfresco breakfast will keep the sun's rays at bay.
Sundowners are perfect in
the gazebo by the pond, or a glass of our lovely wine by your own private
swimming pool. |

| Franschhoek's
wine growing heritage dates back to the 17th century, when the French Huguenots
planted the first vines in the valley. Over the ensuing period the Franschhoek
wine industry has seen many changes and ridden many waves. A Phylloxera
outbreak in the late 19th century destroyed most of the vineyards in the
valley and many of the farms were replanted to fruit. Fortunately however,
the wine growing tradition has survived and La Providence is proud to be
one of the boutique producers in this prestigious valley that has been
producing wine since 2000.
Only Cabernet Sauvignon vines
are planted on the estate and with just 2.16 hectares under vines, total
production is a mere 750 cases per annum. With such a limited quantity,
the wine is in great demand and is presently supplied to a select list
of clients in Hong Kong, Mallorca and the United Kingdom.. |

|
Despite having only a few
harvests under the belt, the estate has managed to produce top quality
wine by utlilising the skills and knowledge of top local artisans. These
include well known viticulturist Pietie Le Roux and top winemaker Nigel
McNaught. Pietie is better known as the viticulturist at La Motte estate,
just outside Franschhoek, while Nigel is the owner and winemaker of nearby
Stony Brook.
With no wine cellar on the
estate, the grapes are taken to Stony Brook for vinification. It is here
that Nigel McNaught works his magic… |
